Originally shipped from the Winchester warehouse on November 12, 1883, this rifle has been transformed into a breathtaking presentation piece. Featuring a shortened 23 7/8 inch octagon-to-round barrel, this legendary lever-action represents the pinnacle of 19th-century frontier power and luxury.
This rifle has undergone an extensive artistic upgrade, boasting 75% coverage of masterful scroll engraving across a brilliant gold-finished receiver. The left sideplate features a striking vignette of a stag and hounds, while the muzzle and breech ends of the barrel are accented with elegant gold-inlaid lines. The select walnut furniture has been refinished and enhanced with sharp point-pattern checkering, and the crescent trapdoor buttplate, forearm cap, and sling swivels all share the lustrous gold plating.
Accompanying this museum-quality display piece is a Cody Firearms Records Office research sheet confirming its 1883 warehouse reception. While the gold-plated and reblued finishes are nearly 100% intact. The bore is dark with pitting and faint rifling. This 1876 stands as a magnificent investment grade showpiece and a primary centerpiece for any advanced Winchester collection.
