Atlas Collectible Firearms is profoundly honored to present this breathtaking Smith & Wesson First Model .32 Hand Ejector revolver manufactured in 1901. Chambered in the classic .32 S&W Long and featuring the extremely RARE 6-inch barrel, this early 1900s masterpiece represents the dawn of the modern swing-out cylinder era. This specific specimen is a true connoisseur's piece, showcasing rare factory embellishments from the pinnacle of the pre-war period.
This exquisite firearm features medium-level factory scroll engraving attributed to the legendary master Oscar Young, complete with his signature foliate style and punch-dot shading. The metal surfaces retain approximately 70% of the original bright factory blue, naturally transitioning into a handsome gray-brown patina. The revolver is further elevated by original factory smooth ivory grips featuring gold S&W medallions and period ink-filled initials “W.G.M.”.
The initials “WGM” could be attributed to William Gibbs McAdoo (1863–1941). McAdoo was active as an influential lawyer and businessman in New York and Tennessee in the early 1900s. Around 1901–1902, he was heavily involved in organizing the company that built the first Hudson River tunnels (the Hudson & Manhattan Railroad), making him a prominent infrastructure figure of that era. In 1913 to 1918 Mr. McAdoo became the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. We have no documentation on the firearm, this is just what we found during our research.
Included with this investment-grade handgun is a premier wooden presentation display case with a rich red velvet-lined interior. The bore is in excellent condition with sharp rifling, and the serialized components remain matching throughout. This factory-engraved Smith & Wesson stands as a remarkable example of early 20th-century artisanal gunsmithing, offering immense historical and aesthetic value to any elite collection.
