Atlas Collectible Firearms is proud to present the most significant and rarest Colt 1911 we have ever encountered: the PROTOTYPE “WW1 DELUXE” Government Model, chambered in the incredibly rare .38 Super cartridge. This pistol, serial number WWI-4, is one of only two prototypes ever made in .38 Super for the World War I Commemorative series, and is a centerpiece of Colt’s post-war history.
This pistol was Master Engraved and documented by the legendary Alvin A. White Engravers, Inc. The receiver is profusely covered in fine scrollwork, with profuse gold inlaid borders. The slide features gold inlaid borders, a beautifully bordered banner reading "1917 WORLD WAR I COMMEMORATIVE 1967," and clusters of scrolls surrounding the ejection port. The unique caliber (.38 Super) was added by White when the finished gun was returned to Colt. The custom wood grips feature a unique gold medallion. The finish is a high-gloss Royal Blue.
The pistol is fully documented by the included photocopy of the detailed A.A. White Engravers certificate, which confirms its prototype status and its acquisition by Herb Glass for the WWI Prototype assignment. This certificate also confirms the unprecedented .38 Super chambering and the incredibly small production of only two such guns (WWI-4 and WWI-2).
The condition is PRISTINE CONSUMER UNFIRED. The finish is exceptional, showing no major handling marks or issues. The action is tight and flawless.
