Atlas Collectible Firearms is profoundly honored to present a true "Holy Grail" of American revolvers: an all-original Pre-War 1938 Smith & Wesson Registered Magnum chambered in the legendary .357 Magnum. This museum-tier specimen, Registration No. 3938 (Serial No. 56678), represents the pinnacle of S&W’s custom-order craftsmanship from the 1930s. It features an incredibly rare factory 8 3/4-inch barrel—one of the scarcest lengths produced—finished in the iconic S&W high-polish blue.
This Registered Magnum is uniquely documented with a factory-upgraded King red bead front sight on a reflector ramp base and a King No. 111 rear sight. Adding to its extraordinary provenance, the revolver retains its factory original checkered walnut grips with the original grip adapter still attached, a configuration that is nearly unheard of in today’s market. The accompanying Smith & Wesson Historical Letter confirms this firearm was shipped on July 6, 1938, to the Northern Commercial Co. in Anchorage, Alaska. Given its Alaskan destination and the presence of honest holster wear, this piece was likely the trusted sidearm of a frontier Peace Officer or Ranger.
Overall, this historic firearm is in very good condition for its age, exhibiting scattered wear and marks that tell the story of its life in the North. While the finish shows its history, the bore and mechanics remain in perfect condition, ensuring this masterpiece is as functional as it is collectible. This is a singular opportunity for the advanced Smith & Wesson student to acquire a uniquely configured Registered Magnum with rock-solid factory documentation and a fascinating Alaskan heritage.
