Sporting Model single-shot rifle chambered in the powerful 7mm Remington Magnum cartridge. Built as an ultra-premium interpretation of the historic Sharps-Borchardt Model 1878, this rifle represents a crown jewel acquisition for the advanced arms investor. Production ran in extremely limited numbers between 1970 and 1977 with a total of only 502 units built across all configurations; official factory records confirm that a mere 86 rifles were ever manufactured in 7mm Remington Magnum. Elevating its historical prestige even further, this first-year production masterpiece carries low serial number CS55 stamped sharply into the metal frame underside.
Featuring a heavy 28-inch round barrel finished in a deep, high-polished factory blue, this Sporting Model showcases exquisite factory master hand engraving across its operating lever and along the custom upper tang insert, which is sharply scroll-engraved and inscribed "SHARPS". The receiver is stocked in an extraordinary piece of exhibit-grade, highly figured walnut exhibiting intense tiger-stripe flame figure, a raised cheekpiece, hand-cut checkering, and a dark rubber recoil pad. Featuring a heavy receiver contour with integral quarter-rib sight scope mounting surfaces, this 1-of-86 production rifle stands as one of the rarest modern commercial arms Colt ever put its name on.
Preserved in very good overall condition, this rare falling-block target rifle retains the vast majority of its rich original factory blued finish, exhibiting only light, scattered handling marks and subtle finish wear from careful preservation. The highly figured walnut stock assembly remains in fine order, boasting brilliant high-gloss clarity and razor-sharp checkering points without structural cracks or chips. Mechanically, the falling-block action operates with glass-smooth precision, offering a vault-tight breech lockup and a crisp single-stage trigger break, while the 28-inch heavy barrel preserves a bright, clean bore with razor-sharp rifling lines from chamber to muzzle.
