Atlas Collectible Firearms is profoundly honored to present this historically significant L.D. Nimschke master engraved antique 1891 mfg. Colt Single Action Army. This "Frontier Six Shooter" is chambered in the legendary .44 WCF (.44-40 winchester centerfire) with a 4.75-inch barrel. Shipped in 1891 to Hartley & Graham in New York City, this blackpowder frame revolver was delivered in the "soft" for master engraving outside the factory.
This antique Colt showcases the unmistakable hand of master engraver L.D. Nimschke, featuring his signature punch-dot backgrounds and elegant scrollwork. The revolver is adorned with period genuine mother of pearl grips that have developed a rich, creamy iridescent patina over the last century. The pearl grips have an old very well done repair done to the right grip panel. While the piece exhibits all-matching serial numbers, it carries an authentic weathered look with scattered pitting. Everything on this peice appears original to the gun except the hammer looks like a replacement.
Accompanying this historic treasure is a formal Colt Archive Letter authenticating its 1891 ship date and "soft" finish configuration, along with a deluxe glass-top wooden presentation case. Despite the honest storage wear likely from being stored long term in a leather holster, the engraving remains very good and the historical pedigree is absolute. This is a rare opportunity to own a verified nineteenth-century work of art.
