Atlas Collectible Firearms is profoundly honored to present this historically significant L.D. Nimschke master engraved antique 1888 mfg. Colt Model 1877 “Thunderer” double action revolver. This iconic Frontier firearm is chambered in the legendary .41 Long Colt with a 5-inch barrel. Shipped in 1888 to Hartley & Graham in New York City, this antique blackpowder revolver was delivered in the "soft" for master engraving outside the factory.
This antique Colt showcases the unmistakable hand of master engraver L.D. Nimschke, featuring his signature punch-dot backgrounds and elegant scrollwork. The revolver is adorned with period genuine mother of pearl grips that have developed a rich, creamy iridescent patina over the last century. The pearl grips have some chipping around the edges. While the piece exhibits all-matching serial numbers, it carries an authentic weathered look with scattered wear but still shows remnants of its original Nickel plating & fire blued screws, hammer & trigger. Everything on this piece appears original to the gun.
Accompanying this historic treasure is a formal Colt Archive Letter authenticating its 1888 ship date and "soft" finish configuration. Also included is a deluxe glass-top wooden presentation case. Despite the honest wear & aging the engraving remains very good and the historical pedigree is absolute. This is a rare opportunity to own a verified nineteenth-century work of art.
