Atlas Collectible Firearms is proud to present this historic Period Engraved Winchester Model 1866 Fourth Model “Yellow Boy” Saddle Ring Carbine, chambered in the classic .44 Centerfire (CF). Manufactured circa 1890, the "Yellow Boy" Model 1866 is one of the most iconic rifles of the American West. This example is beautifully enhanced with period engraving.
This carbine features a 20-inch round barrel, a full-length magazine tube retained by barrel bands, and a centerfire bolt. The very rare Brass receiver features attractive period floral scroll engraving over punch-dot backgrounds, with an empty presentation scroll on the left side attributed to the world famous master engraver Louis D. Nimschke yet we do not have any documentation on the rifle. It includes an iron butt plate with light engraving at the heel. The receiver has a rich, mellow patina, providing attractive contrast to the darkened engraving.
The overall condition is Good with the iron components displaying a gunmetal gray patina with cleaned oxidation spotting. The stocks are very good, which are most likely replacements, with scattered impressions. The bore is in poor condition, and there is no extractor present. The mechanics are otherwise good. A handsome, historically important saddle ring carbine.
