Atlas Collectible Firearms is proud to present this RARE & HISTORIC Pre-War 1924 Colt Officer's Model Target Revolver chambered in the scarce .32 Police caliber. This is an exceptionally unique piece, believed to be a presentation or experimental model with direct factory provenance. The accompanying Colt Archive Letter confirms it was shipped to Colt Executive Albert Foster, Jr., at Colt's New York office in 1924 on a "Colt Loan Account."
This revolver features the rare 6-inch Heavy Barrel, beautiful polished blue finish, and nitre-blued small parts. The extensive custom work is believed to be Colt done when it was returned to the factory and the engraving work may have been possibly hand engraved by one of the legendary “Young” brothers Eugene Young (son of the great Gustave Young). Eugene did factory work for Colt in 1924. The frame is stamped with the Factory rework symbols ("&" and Star stamp). The right side of the frame is historically engraved: "Ptl. Adolph P. Schuber U.S. Time Fire Champion, Camp Perry Ohio 1924", linking it to a famous NYC Police shooting champion.
The Custom Target features include conversion to Single Action Only (SAO), a shortened cylinder, target sights and retains a custom-made, period-correct hand-fit lead weight in the grip frame, suggesting its use as a match competition pistol by Ptl. Schuber.
The condition is excellent, retaining virtually all of the professionally reapplied blue finish with only minor handling and age marks. The mechanics are sound, the bore is bright with excellent rifling. This firearm is a true piece of Colt History as well as an outstanding addition to any advanced collection of engraved or historic competition firearms.
