Atlas Collectible Firearms is proud to offer this extraordinary Colt “Engraving Sampler” Single Action Army revolver, hand engraved by legendary Colt Master Engraver George Spring as part of Colt’s ultra-limited 150th Anniversary commemorative series. Chambered in .45 Long Colt, this factory Custom Shop masterpiece features a rare 10-inch barrel and an equally rare unfluted cylinder, finished in deluxe factory Royal Blue and color case hardening.
The “Engraving Sampler” series was one of Colt’s most exclusive undertakings, produced in 1986 to commemorate their 150th year. Each firearm in the series was engraved in four historically significant Colt engraving styles: R. Henshaw (1831), L.D. Nimschke (1850–1900), Cuno Helfricht (1871–1921), and a Contemporary factory style. Only a handful of each Colt model was selected to be engraved in this fashion, and this particular example is one of just **ten** Colt SAA revolvers ever produced as part of the sampler set. It is beautifully adorned with factory scrimshaw hand-carved genuine ivory grips, completing the collector-grade presentation.
This revolver remains new old stock, 100% factory original, and is fully documented with its Colt Archive Letter. It comes housed in its original Colt deluxe oak presentation case with working key, original manual, and associated factory paperwork. A true Holy Grail among Colt commemoratives, this example stands as a rare and historically significant piece of Custom Shop artistry from one of Colt’s most celebrated engravers.
