Atlas Collectible Firearms is profoundly honored to present one of the most breathtaking, exhibition-tier custom 1911 pistols in existence: a 1982 production Colt Gold Cup National Match MK IV Series 70 chambered in .45 ACP. Representing the final production year for the highly coveted Series 70 GCNM platform, this masterpiece has been transformed into a museum-grade work of art featuring extensive deep-relief hand engraving and an immense amount of raised sterling silver inlays. Stamped on the frame with serial number 14044N70, the bottom of the grip frame is signed "ENGELS", attributing the custom execution to Waffen Engels FFM, a world-renowned Frankfurt-based German custom house. The frame carries authentic German import proof marks alongside the "IE" date code, confirming its receipt and custom execution in Germany in 1984. The master-level hand chiseling and sterling silver relief work was most likely done by legendary German master engravers Felix Funken or Gerd Danner who were known for doing work around this period for the Engels German Gun Shop. The gun is not signed and we have no definitive proof so this is just expert speculation.
The metal surfaces are fully covered in deep relief foliate scroll engraving surrounded by fine sterling silver inlay borders. The left side of the slide features a raised sterling silver scene depicting a pair of cowboys riding at high speed, while the rear slide flat showcases the stylized, inlaid silver initials that appears to be "GB". The right side of the slide displays a detailed, raised sterling silver western scene featuring a cowboy roping a bull while a second bull watches in the background. The artistry extends seamlessly to the custom hand-crafted walnut grips, which are deeply carved in matching scroll patterns. The right grip panel is set with a raised sterling silver inlay of an armed cowboy heading into a confrontation with six-gun drawn, while the left grip panel features a silver inlay of a cowboy riding away on his steed.
This investment-grade Colt remains in pristine, exhibition collector condition, appearing virtually unfired since its transformation into a custom work of art. The deep blued finish is in excellent condition, retaining nearly all of its rich, lustrous coverage with virtually no handling wear. The hand-carved walnut grips are equally pristine, remaining completely free of chips, cracks, or warping, while preserving sharp, unblemished detail across the silver inlays. Mechanically, the match-grade action operates with flawless, hand-fitted precision, and the barrel preserves a mirror-bright bore with razor-sharp, distinct rifling lines completely free of rust or pitting. This extraordinary 1911 arrives housed inside a custom deluxe wooden presentation case featuring a vibrant red velvet lining and a protective glass display window.
