Atlas Collectible Firearms is profoundly honored to present a truly historic, museum-grade treasure from the pinnacle of modern Colt collecting: a factory custom-ordered Colt Single Action Army revolver chambered in the legendary .45 Colt. This breathtaking revolver represents an irreplaceable piece of corporate and firearms history, having been custom-crafted and presented by the Colt Manufacturing Company to their legendary, longtime official factory historian, Kathleen J. Hoyt, to honor her retirement in 2009 after decades of dedicated service to the collecting community. This stunning tribute gun features a beautiful, crisp gold-filled presentation script across the backstrap reading: "KATHLEEN J HOYT / FROM COLT'S PT FA MFG CO." Kathy Hoyt was a revered household name among serious arms investors, famous for her impeccable factory letters and her co-authorship of the definitive reference book, "The Official Record Of The Colt Single Action Army Revolver 1873-1895". Following her retirement in 2009, she sadly passed away a few years later in 2012, making this poignant presentation piece the ultimate artifact of her historic legacy.
This Masterpiece-grade firearm was executed to the absolute highest standards of the Colt Custom Shop, featuring Class B factory Master Level engraving in the iconic American Bank Note scroll style. The master-level hand engraving is beautifully highlighted by brilliant, 24K gold-inlaid wedding bands elegantly wrapped around both the muzzle end of the barrel and the rear face of the cylinder. The revolver is dressed in a magnificent pair of smooth, custom one-piece genuine ivory grips, which feature exquisite custom scrimshaw work on the left panel reading: "COLT HISTORIAN / 1988 - 2009". This magnificent level of master hand engraving, precision gold inlay work, and scrimshaw carving was done by Expert Master Engraved George Spring and is noted as such on the original Colt Archive Letter. Boasting an exquisitely rich royal blue finish on the barrel, cylinder, and grip frame, the revolver is anchored by a flawlessly vibrant, vivid factory case-hardened frame that showcases brilliant hues of amber, cyan, and charcoal. The firearm with come complete with its original factory box and serialized sleeve, manual and paperwork as shown (the shipping receipt & packing list in the photos is for another one of Kathy's other guns, she must have put it in the wrong box years ago).
The condition of this historic presentation Single Action Army is pristine, remaining in museum-quality, New Old Stock (NOS) consumer-unfired condition. It has been meticulously preserved since its 2009 presentation, showing only the absolute faintest, superficial hints of handling from brief periods of presentation display. Any slight, minor surface discoloration visible on the metal finish in our photography is completely non-destructive and is simply factory-applied dried storage grease and oil. The genuine ivory stocks remain completely flawless, tight-fitting, and free of any defects or drying cracks. Mechanically, the action is in flawless, factory-crisp working order with a razor-sharp, mirror-bright bore that has never seen a round down the tube outside of the original factory test firing.
