Atlas Collectible Firearms is profoundly honored to present a museum-tier piece of American history: a 1st Generation 1882 Colt Single Action Army (SAA) chambered in the versatile .38 Special and finished in a custom bright nickel. This historic six-shooter features the classic 5.5-inch barrel and the highly desirable original early 3-line patent date address on the frame. This specimen is built on the original black powder style screw-in frame, representing the iconic design of the early frontier era.

This masterpiece has been elevated to a premier work of art with full-coverage Custom Master Hand Engraving. The intricate scrollwork strongly resembles the work of world-famous Colt engraver Alvin Herbert, who served at Hartford from 1955 to 1961 but we were unable to find any signature. The aesthetics are completed by a set of premium factory-style presentation-grade genuine elephant ivory grips, which have a absolute precision fit to the frame.

This revolver exhibits fascinating factory provenance, which to us looks like it was sent back to the Colt factory in the 1950s for professional restoration and re-chambering to .38 Special. This is evidenced by matching assembly marks of "170" on the grip frame, ejector tube, and barrel, which was the standard factory practice for 1st Gen work during that period. The primary serial number, 75024, remains all-matching on the frame, trigger guard, and grip strap. The top of the frame looks like it had a custom sight installed at some point very early on and then at the time of the restoration & engraving was filled in with metal.

This beautiful work of art is fitted in a Custom Deluxe Wood Glass-Top Presentation Case. The firearm remains in excellent collector condition with a perfect, bright bore and a mechanically flawless strong/tight four-click action. Due to the factory re-chambering, this antique-frame firearm is classified as a modern firearm and must ship to an FFL or C&R holder.
