Atlas Collectible Firearms is profoundly honored to present a true historical enigma and a crown jewel for the advanced Colt collector: the earliest known 3rd Generation Cutaway Colt Single Action Army revolver. Manufactured in February of 1977 and chambered in .45 Colt with a 5.5-inch barrel, this revolver is a masterclass in functional artistry, providing a window into the legendary Peacemaker’s internal mechanics.
The revolver features a breathtaking factory high-polish nickel finish, exquisitely accented by fire blue screws and a fire blue trigger. Historical records in the accompanying Colt Archive Letter indicate this firearm was returned to the factory in 1979 for this specific finish. Research suggests the cutaway work was performed by Pacific International for Colt demonstration purposes, as they were the firm responsible for creating the iconic “California Combat Pythons” and worked very closely with Colt on many other factory projects.
This investment-grade treasure is accompanied by its original Colt Archive Letter and a deluxe glass-top wood presentation case with a vibrant red velvet interior. The firearm remains in perfect, museum-grade condition, with the professional cutaway work executed to a flawless factory standard. This is an unparalleled opportunity to own a unique piece of Colt’s developmental history that will never be duplicated. This is the earliest 3rd generation example we have ever seen and is the only example we have seen from this time period as well!!
